The Enchanted Forest: Celebrating 200 years of Grimm’s Fairy Tales

I am taking part in an exhibition with other super talented illustrators, (I am working on the pieces for this show as I write...) I am inviting you to come join us for the show. Below are the details and we are looking forward to seeing you guys there!

The Enchanted Forest
Celebrating 200 years of Grimm’s Fairy Tales

Wednesday 28 November – Saturday 8 December
FREE Exhibition

The first ever collection of Grimm’s fairy tales, entitled “Children’s and Household Tales”, was published in December of 1812, and two hundred years later it is still thrilling children and adults alike. To celebrate two hundred years of enchantment and magic; seven young up and coming illustrators will be interpreting these wonderfully dark and mysterious stories into a very special Christmas exhibition at Foyles. With inspiration taken from both the classics, such as Hansel and Gretel, and the less well-known tales like The Golden Bird; this exhibition is about interpreting and re-discovering a cultural legacy that has been with us for 200 years.

Prepare to be spellbound as you enter The Enchanted Forest.

The Enchanted Forest is grateful to IdeasTap for providing funding through its Ideas Fund for this project.

Venue:
The Gallery at Foyles, Third Floor, Charing Cross Road

Opening Hours:
Monday – Saturday 9am – 9pm
Sunday 10am – 6pm

*Please note that the Gallery may be closed when instore meetings and events are taking place.

Wedding invitation and Lovebirds

This was my wedding invitation design for my own wedding/renewal of vows. I also hand drew name cards for the guests representing my interpretation of them, such as Medieval lettering for a reenactment fan or red and green coloured comicky type for a zombie fan. So typography was a big part of my wedding plan so it naturally followed through to the invitations as well. The birds underneath the letters are called Red-billed Leiothrix, and they stay together as a couple so I thought it's appropriate for this occasion...

I really liked these birds and made a separate piece, 'Lovebirds'. This is available as products on society6 so please visit my store if you are interested from here or from the blog side banner.

I am available for wedding invitation design and other wedding stationary, so shoot me an email for enquiry or visit this page to see other examples from my wedding.

A/W 2012 Station Magazine

My latest fashion illustration is for Station Magazine Issue 1, my mission was to draw 10 iconic styles from A/W 2012 fashion week collections. They are all beautiful and eye-popping to look at but some of them were so hard to draw due to detailed pattern and design, but I think I somehow managed to capture them.

Please visit my portfolio if you want to see all of the originals!

saji: plate design

I was commissioned by saji to design the plates for everyone to have wonderful meals every time! Art direction is by MIHO from saji and Opportune Design, and the concept is to have 2 designs representing 'before meal' and 'after meal'. You can see my monkeys craving for meal in the red one and looking satisfied and relaxed in the black one.

They will be available at TOKYO CULTUART BEAMS or you can visit Magazine Library event from 7th to 10th May at Daikanyama Hillside Terrace if you are around Tokyo!

Shelter Up My Street Art Auction: Collaboration with Amelia’s Magazine illustrators!

Amelia's Magazine illustrators: Lesley Barnes, Emma Block, Yelena BryksenkovaAntonia ParkerThereza Rowe and I participated in a wonderful charity art auction for Shelter. Amelia chose to theme the work around the concept of a safe secure home. The wonderful illustrators all created their idea of a comforting safe home and the final piece was brought together into one home designed by Lesley Barnes.

This is a close up of my illustration, I wanted something multicultural and happy so I decided to draw a secret  kid's fort party to show the joy of home. Amelia mentioned that the structure of house will be drawn by Lesley and her signature bold black style is something to consider in my design so I used a lot of black with vibrant colours, kept the inside of fort dark as well so you can focus on what kids are doing. You can see the parents peeking at them in the background if you notice?

Close up entrance by Lesley Barnes, I love the giant key!

Close up room by Emma Block with her lovely grandparents.

Close up room by Thereza Rowe, I want to live in this room!

Close up room by Yelena Bryksenkova, I like the caring atmosphere here.

Close up room by Antonia Parker with a funky granny!

This month Shelter hosts an exhibition of artwork including our collaboration in the concept of Up My Street at the Coningsby Gallery, so please visit there if you are around and enjoy the exhibition!

SOYU: Creative Zodiac 2012

I've got exciting news for everyone today, I'm taking part in an amazing creative project,  SOYU, a brand new brand that is all about East meets West through the medium of art and fashion, this is their launch project, the Creative Zodiac 2012, which takes designs from twelve fabulous artists for each of the animals of the zodiac and gives them a modern reworking, bringing the Zodiac out as an expression of creativity as fresh as the new year.

I've chosen  the Rooster as I wanted to draw a Japanese onagadori, it’s a long tailed chicken as you can see! I have taken inspiration from the Japanese painter, Jakuchu Ito, his composition and colours are dramatic, the details he puts in his work are almost crazy, you should check it out if you have a chance, Most of my rooster is hand drawn with ink and gouache to give it a traditional feeling then rendered in photoshop.

See the details of my drawing here, it has been printed beautifully by Ripe Digital.

The prints are available for sale at a discount during Chinese New Year week! (23rd to 29th January)

Below is a little bit about the project by SOYU.

THE CREATIVE ZODIAC

SOYU's launch project is the Creative Zodiac. A set of 12 prints, by 12 fantastic artists inspired by the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Each artist was chosen for their unique style, skill and craft they put in to their pieces. Limited to just 10 prints per piece it is also a response to the mass produced 'Upload and Order' printed products that are appearing online. Each A2 piece is digitally printed on 315gsm cotton uncoated rag, resulting in some of the finest quality wall art you're likely to see around.

SOYU also wants to be fair and accessible with their product line, so they are selling these beautiful prints with a launch offer of just £15 per print during Chinese New Year week (23-29 January).
